Emblem of Astana

The circle is put in a basis of the emblem as the expression of idea of perfection, absolute and eternity. The central element is composition of two symbols - Baiterek and Shanirak.

This art decision is an expression of a vector of modern Kazakhstan development which includes both a symbol of the city, and a symbol of the country. Baiterek - is a world tree, personification of the world. It is understood as space as an alive developing organism.

It is closely connected with symbolics of the centre. Shanirak is understood as a point of transition of immensity of the world to the native house. Thus, from the art point of view, connection of two symbols - Baiterek and Shanirak is carried out. There is ornament « kuskanti» - the bird’s wings, rising to the stylized image of mythical bird “Samruk” at the base of Baiterek.

It is the main idea of symbolic design of the left bank (the shadow of the hovering bird “Samruk” which is flying out from it’s nest, is spread in Presidential park). Space of the emblem is divided on two rings also with figurative explanation. The external ring is a deep stratum of history of great steppe. Red color of an external ring symbolized clearing force of Fire. For Turkic peoples fire was a vital elements associated with ideas about birth, growth and development. Fire of the hearth was considered as a part of the sun. Also red border symbolizes flaming gate, entering it everyone is purged his soul and filled with strength. Frequently red color chose by nomads for a military banner, symbolizing war valour and fury of a victory. And the internal ring contains the newest symbols of independence of Kazakhstan and greatness of Astana.

Color «blue sky» - is color of a national flag, emphasizing the central place of idea of independence in national ideology. Image Baiterek with Shanirak is the symbol of history continuity of modern Kazakhstan. There are some other elements which are in harmony with the basic in Emblem. The green fringing is used as a decorative element and carries an idea of world well-being and unfading youth. There are symmetric lines title segment with inscription “Astana”. Each of lines is stylized « uik» supplementing an image of Shanirak crowning a composition.

The Emblem is made according to the international heraldic canons of symbolics. The Color and graphic symbolically carries the ideological - semantic contents of the emblem in which historical events of city life, connected with persons, played a main role in getting the state independence and development of the country.
